Billy V To Anchor Merrie Monarch Television Broadcast


BVO Enterprises is happy to announce that Hawaii Television and Radio Veteran “Billy V” will be the Broadcast Anchor alongside ʻŌlelo Hawaii (Hawaiian Language) Expert Amy Kalili for this yearsʻ Merrie Monarch Festival. Amy and Billy V will be joined by Kumu Hula and Past Merrie Monarch Judge Cy Bridges, Kumu Hula Manu Boyd, Kimo Kahoano and Hawaii News Now Television Anchor Keahi Tucker.

Mileka Lincoln will be in Hilo covering for Hawaii News Now for both “Sunrise” and the evening news; while Hawaii News Now Sunrise will have Grace Lee, Dan Cooke and Mileka Lincoln broadcasting specifically for “Sunrise” not only talking about hula, but doing interviews and talking story about Hawaii Island as well.

The 54th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival is Hulaʻs #1 event and highly coveted competition.  It begins with festivities on Easter Sunday at the Ah Fook Chinen Auditorium.  Hilo really ramps up on Wednesday with Hoʻike Exhibition Night where the stadium is always full and people wait for hours outside of the gates.

  1. Wednesday night, K5 The Home Team will air the special “Backstage At The Merrie Monarch Festival” where many will see the backstories of the halau and individuals participating in the hula competition this year.

  2. Thursday Night will be the individual dancers competing for the title of Miss Aloha Hula.

  3. Friday will be Group Kahiko night, highlighting the chants and traditional dances of Hawaii

  4. Saturday will conclude the competition with Group Auana – Contemporary Hula and the awards ceremonies.

Thursday thru Saturday will be broadcast on K5 The Home Team in Hawaii and around the world at K5thehometeam.com
