With this weekends' Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic in the books; I got a chance to smile at the anniversary; 20 years as the Game Day Activities Coordinator for University of Hawaii Rainbow Warrior Football, Rainbow Wahine Basketball and Rainbow Warrior Basketball! I work with a fabulous crew of both University students and staff; and broadcast/event professionals that help to make UH Games not only entertaining, but more importantly to assist in building the energy in the crowd to cheer our teams on to victory.
It all started with a call from Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Nancy Daniels. She was asking if I would be available to emcee their halftime activities at University of Hawaii Rainbow Warrior Basketball. I said sure; I've had a wonderful relationship with Outrigger being the television host of "Outrigger Television"; the in-house television show featuring O'ahu on all the televisions in all of the Outrigger rooms statewide.
Doing three nights of games for UH was fun and exciting; the crowds were pure energy and they cheered their coach Riley Wallace and UH team to victory.
Soon afterwards the Athletics Department of University of Hawaii would call asking me to come on board and assist in creating new energy at games. 20 years later we are still evaluating games and keeping up with trends in game activities & client management
The music, technology and opponent rivalries often change with time, but the energy that crowds create and watching that translate to victories with the Stan Sheriff Center or Aloha Stadium going crazy creates such a wonderful feeling of satisfaction; there is nothing like it.
